BEING PSYCHIC: What's It Really Mean?

It is unfortunate, the amount of contrary information that seems to permeate the Psychic idea; one group telling you that it comes by way of chanting, fasting and ringing gongs while being celibate and a pure vegetarian; while others are encouraging vision quests and sweat lodge ceremonies.  Then, topping it all off, are the Cynics and know-it-all magicians looking to make a headline by "debunking" it all.

The following touches on the fundamentals behind what is and isn't "Psychic".  It will likewise reveal something that's known to most Gnostic students but rarely heard of outside said circles; reference to a much higher sense of prowess that more concisely fits the idea and fantasy most of us layer onto the idea of "Being Psychic".

BEING PSYCHIC: What's it Actually Mean?

The majority of us suffer from a very unrealistic sense of perspective when it comes to the question of “Being Psychic”.  There are many reasons for this, the most prominent being eons of misinformation; misinformation created from within the “clergy” (acts of secrecy and obfuscation that reserved certain knowledge and understanding for “the chosen few” while creating a more magickle image in the mind of the non-initiate); not so much as “Clergy” as it is understood in modern times but rather its parallel in era long forgotten – when the shaman served as guardian and guide, and a prophets’ word was made law.

When we start contemplating the thousands of years and untolled generations in which the Priests and Priestesses perpetuated these illusions it is quite easy to see how the more fantasiful aspects of said prowess, stays with us as an innate assumption – one that can quite literally blind and deafen us should we choose to allow such. After all, most of those living in any given era including our own, are more in love with the romantic notion of magickle things and the possibility they exists than they are curious about “knowing it” from a more pragmatic point of view.  It’s a condition that is clinically referred to as “Denial”. . .

. . . then too, the proponents of such magickle thinking would have you see it as a “calling” of some sort; evidence that you are an “evolved” or still evolving soul . . and for a price they will help you along in this journey.

But who is “right” in this debate; the ministers that have placed themselves above us, as governors of the masses? Or the so-called “Rationalists” and “Critical Thinkers” who believe in nothing outside of mankind itself and the auspices of scientific and intellectual “fact”?

Which in and of itself, is quite questionable when you get right down to it; look at how frequently scientific facts CHANGE! What was once deemed solid, hardcore science suddenly becomes set-aside as quackery. How is one to embrace such as mutable thing?

The “Truth” it would seem, is exactly where the Buddha told us it would be – IN THE MIDDLE.

The Way of the Wise . . . as some of our more down-to-earth adherents claim, would not . . . at least from my point of understanding, suggest that we walk the world blind, gullible and deluded by fantasy.  Rather, it would imply that we have chosen to open our eyes, remove the wool from our ears and stop listening or contemplating the fantastical.

Let He Who Has Ears by Which to Hear, Hear, and He with Eyes by Which to See, Open Them That They Might Know the Greater Mysteries In Life and Truth in All Things.

-Ancient Pagan Wisdom Saying-

“Denial” really is the primary symptom when it comes to emotional, mental and spiritual illness a.k.a. imbalance – Dis-Ease.  It is likewise the most common of all challenges in life and the easiest to manipulate.

“Huh?”

The Old Ones from before recorded time, that first handful of intelligent ape-like hominid that started discovering certain “scientific” truths, seems to have recognized how dangerous things could get is that same knowledge became abused.  Just look at the potential of Fire, one of the earliest such discoveries, and how much psychological power these ancient shaman would have, just by know how to create Fire, let alone the more advanced stages of related knowledge like how certain types of stones, when tossed into the flames, made them change color or why the yellow talc like earth, when thrown onto hot coals, resulted in a massive cloud of smelly smoke. Add to this most primitive and early knowledge the secrets behind leverage, understanding the cyclic patterns of weather and nature itself. . . the list grows quickly and exponentially.

Such perception may seem preposterous at first, but when we give ourselves permission to step back and look at even our present times and how enchanted we all get over “new” technology or man’s rediscovery of nearly forgotten intrigues within nature.  In what we do we can readily recognize how our primitive kin folk would have reacted when seeing display of similar “science”.  The difference is, they didn’t understand it enough and so man created god in his own image and likeness. . . as the great prophet George Carlin explained to us back in the 1970’s

These original discoverers would have started formalizing said mysteries and over time, begin passing them down to a chosen few; the younger members of society they felt were both “worthy” of the education as well as trustworthy, when it came to not abusing said knowledge.

Unfortunately, the latter proved a bit of a folly from time to time, as the “sainted” fell from grace and grew corrupt. . .

. . . the whole Lucifer tale, if you would.

This reality brings us back to what I shared in my EXOTERIC & ESOTERIC article which in turn, brings us to your current quest and questions – How Do I Become Psychic?

  • FACT ONE: You don’t “become” Psychic, you already are!

  • FACT TWO: In order to realize this, you simply need to become willing to not embrace the delusion – this fantasiful lie we’ve learned to believe in and thus, obscure our understanding as to what Psychic Prowess and Magick truly are and more importantly, AREN’T.

Let me start by offering you the very handbook I have used as a primer to teaching “Psychic Awareness” for decades; Wisdom of the Mystic Masters by Joseph Weed. I use it for several reasons but the primary reason centers on the basic lessons or “challenges” it takes you on; learning how to actually SEE and more importantly REMEMBER even the finest details within your world.

There’s not a bunch of Eastern Occultism being offered; chanting, dietary routines, etc. are quite nominal to non-existent in this tome while a very strong pragmatic look at who you are and what you are exists; the fact that your brain can be programmed and by way of focus, discipline and general persistence, you will be able to develop those faculties within yourself, that the typical human being identifies as being “Psychic”.

I’m not talking about bending spoons or keys via the power of your mind or even prognostication and “telepathy” even though these first steps will bring you closer to certain of these things. What I am speaking of however, is the literal idea of “Mentalism” -- mastery over your own mind, your own thoughts or, as Louise Hay used to say, “Claiming Your Own Power!”

Isn’t that closer to what you really want to accomplish, to have the power to understand and foreseen things about your own future?  To know how to “create” into your life, the circumstances you honestly require?

The famed memory expert Harry Loraine pointed out in his original “Memory Book” (co-authored with Jerry Lucas), that just having a solid sense of recollection will result in people seeing you as being “psychic”.  Then, as any veteran detective or incident inspector will tell you, being able to readily see and pay attention to the smallest of details lends to us this very same sort of reputation, even though it might seem tongue-n-cheek at times; a kind of “kudo” given because you are so proficient at your work ala Sherlock Holmes and his sense of reasoning.

When we learn to recite Shakespeare, Poe and other great authors or any other mode of text, we are expressing one type of mental discipline; one that is requisite for those wishing to “become” psychic.  Other disciplines of this kind include the knack of mathematic computation done mentally and silently free of paper, pencil or electronic device – not memorization of answers, but the ability to literally compute the equations or, as the case may be, understanding space and proportion . . . the list is close to infinite but it all begins when we consciously decide to stake the famed “first step” which it would seem, means that we must sit aside our romantic notion as to what magickle things are and aren’t in order to learn the Wizard’s actual secrets.

The Apostle Paul hints at the fact that there is a higher “Mystical” level of spiritual “knowing” referred to as being “Pneumatic” – above and beyond the laws of man and seemingly, those of nature itself.  I tend to believe the latter a faulty interpretation, the truer meaning being that we have learned and become more adept to working with and manipulating the laws of nature & the universe.  The fact that humankind has managed to move progressively in this direction, so much so that many now have the audacity to claim “Man” is above “God”. . . that we no longer need the Gods or, coldly, the gods no longer exist simply because we’ve become so aware, so advanced and so full of ourselves. . .

This is the fallacy to the system I’m introducing you to – the chink in the proverbial armor – our EGO.

21st century man has fallen under a very extreme spell when it comes to its delusion of self and role in the scheme of things.  While the impetus to this end began long ago, as the first cynic slithered down from his tree, offering a teen-age lass a bite of an apple, what we are seeing today is the maturation of such spite and duplicity. Then again, it was arrogance that caused Lucifer’s fall, if the legends are to be believed and, if would seem, it is the very same thing that is compelling society to distance itself more and more away from nature and what is “true” to those old mystical manners of the past.

“Now I’m confused . . .

. . . first you say to be more pragmatic and now you’re telling us to remember the fantasy; would you make-up your mind?”

Discovery of all these wonders is part of genuine mysticism (why else would the classic wizard be seen surrounded by books?) The “wonder” – what comes across as “Magick” within the common person’s mind – is that exoteric side behind the mystery; like the stage magician, we present only the illusion and keep the secrets to ourselves or discussed with our fellows within the craft so that we may each know benefit and thus, learn – grow!  But with such knowledge comes great responsibility and that includes caution as to what we share with whom and when. If the student is not yet ready (matured enough) a very negative effect can result; frequently a kind of “repulsion” an act of rejecting the data and through that rejection, growing bitter.  At times recovery from such bouts is possible but only after the neophyte has had time to mull over the in-put and taken time to digest it and essentially, learn to see such truths for themselves.

Think about how difficult it is for many of you to read and accept what I’m saying here and the direction I’m pointing you toward.  I can assure you, I’m not making a lot of friends by saying these things in that most human beings curious about the psychic situation are, as I said in the opening of this article, in love with the idea of being such rather than the reality.

There is much we will have to look at in the time ahead when it comes to Psychic Realities and personal destiny.  In parting however I am compelled to ask you one very important question;

“Who Does it Serve?”

This is the question asked by the Buddha when asked about miracles and miracle workers; the seers and dowsers as well as those that could levitate and transmute.

As a retired showman I can tell you with utmost certainty, that all magicians seek to out-do their fellows in order to prove themselves superior.  On one level this is human nature, not to mention an aspect of fittest survival in play. But for the most part it is the magician’s way of feeding his/her ego and little more. “Look at me for I am fantastic!  I can transform a woman into a tiger. . . I can burn her alive and yet, restore her to life.”

Truly marvelous things to behold but they have nothing to do with honest enlightenment. To understand that I’ll suggest you check into James George Frazer’s “The Golden Bough” and pay particular attention to the parable entitled “Chop Wood – Fetch Water”.

Blessed Be!

YOU ARE PSYCHIC!

All of us are!

We are each born with innate abilities that every animal is born with; instincts and intuitions that are as natural as the very earth you stand on.

The problem we are all dealing with, is the barrage of misrepresentation that fills our head and our lives when it comes to the idea of what is and is not "Psychic".

Trust me when I say, "if it was seen in a Movie or Tv show, it's nowhere close to reality."

. . . and I don't care what famous author/medium they have as the shows' consultant, they distort their own truth  just as much as the script writers do.

KNOW THIS. . .

Just because you can Read the Tarot Cards, a Palm or even operate a OUIJA Board, it doesn't mean you're "Psychic".  These things are both, tools of the trade as well as "teaching devices" and "keys".

When someone is drawn toward the Tarot (as an example) it is their intuition that first triggers the interest and will later aid them in becoming a proficient Reader, but they have to learn to walk first -- the must learn the system and develop the discipline each system requires of us.

Over time, as we learn to master system after system and thus, expand our "school book" knowledge (the literal meanings of the symbols, the mechanics of laying out the cards or walking through whichever system studied) we will start becoming aware of other things. . .

. . . typically, it is our friends and family that will see it first.

How we seem to be more aware, more sensitive to what surrounds us, how we feel and just "knowing" things for what seems to be no reason at all.

It's an awakening of sorts; our becoming aware of both, our self and the fuller sense of "Life".  It is a magickle thing but I must warn you, it's NOT "Magick". . .

. . . bummer, eh?

It's not Magick in the sense most of us dream of but it is a magickle thing that is happening and it is exactly what all those Oracles and Systems are about -- unlocking the "veil" we tend to hide behind and making us more aware consciously and likewise at the subconscious level, which absorbs and sees things in ways our "logical side" filters out and ignores.  Yet, the more you do this work, the more you study, meditate and simply contemplate things, the greater sensitivity and connectedness you will realize.

This is not something "new" and it certainly isn't some kind of special "Power".  It's always been there, you just weren't cognizant of it, nor did you have any desire/need for it until now.

It is important that you understand the fact that this is all a natural process.  Keep your head about yourself and ignore those invisible people that may try to get your attention . . .

. . . at least for the time being.

Yes, there is a Santa Claus. . .

I say it that way because of how our cynical friends love equating the invisible with such things; if you can't touch it, weigh it, or measure it, it can't exist according to them, and so the essence of things disembodied seem relegated to the fantasiful at the moment.  Know however (as you'll hear me say many times) "there's a lot more to the story than most would think."

We needn't be concerned however, with the act of chatting with dead relatives or expelling unwelcome spooks. . .

. . . baby steps!
